Proposed natural gas pipeline draws petition

An advocacy group from Georgia has filed a petition to challenge a Florida Department of Environmental Protection permit for the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline.

The $3 billion pipeline will run from Tallapoosa County in Alabama to Osceola County in Central Florida. It will cross 13 Florida counties, including Alachua, Hamilton, Madison, Suwannee, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Sumter, Lake, Polk, Osceola, Orange and Citrus.

The petition was filed by the WWALS Watershed Coalition, which is focused on the Withlacoochee, Willacoochee, Alapaha, Little and Upper Suwannee rivers in Georgia and Florida. The DEP general counsel will now review the petition and decide whether to allow it to proceed to the state Division of Administrative Hearings.
