Owner Rights

As a property owner in the State of Florida you have legal rights available to you.

For example, Florida law allows you to hire an attorney to represent you when your property is being taken for a project like the Sabal Trail pipeline project.
If your property has been targeted for the Sabal Trail pipeline project, the impact to your property will depend upon several factors, including, but not limited to:

  • Proposed location of the pipeline on your property;
  • Size and shape of your property;
  • Proposed location of the pipeline to your home, improvements or business operation;
  • The type of proposed improvements (appurtenances such as valve station, blow-down valves, “pig” launcher, compressor station, etc.) planned to be constructed on your property.

There are at least 5 things you need to know:

  • You do not have to speak to a Sabal Trail representative without first consulting with your attorney.
  • If you have already spoken to a Sabal Trail representative without consulting an attorney, you HAVE NOT waived your right to hire an attorney.
  • You do not have to provide any information about your property to a Sabal Trail representative.
  • You should not sign any documents presented to you by a Sabal Trail representative without first consulting with your attorney.
  • You have a right to representation by an attorney, as well as the right to hire experts to defend and assist you in the acquisition and/or condemnation of your property.

Things you should NOT do:

  • Do not discuss any issues pertaining to valuation or the value of your property or business with anyone connected with the Sabal Trail or the Florida Southeast Connection without first consulting with your attorney.
  • Do not permit any representative(s) of Sabal Trail or the Florida Southeast Connection to conduct soil borings, explorations of hazardous materials or waste, or test wells for your water supply, without first consulting with your attorney.
  • Do not provide any written documentation regarding your property or business, such as leases, rental agreements, expense and financial reports, tax returns, crop reports and leases, or similar documents to a representative of Sabal Trail or Florida Southeast Connection without first consulting with your attorney.
  • Do not sign any document presented to you by Sabal Trail or Florida Southeast Connection without first consulting with your attorney.
